I have recently started to explore teaching SomaYoga to an equine therapist, Angie Payne, with her equine therapy horses, Romeo and Fancy, nearby. We began by chatting and getting to know each other. As we were doing so, Fancy kept coming between us, she would gently nudge me at my heart and step away, then come back and nudge me again. It made me curious… [Read more…] about Holding Space, Practicing Compassion, Creating Connection

Why I love SomaYoga Therapy

The weight of my legs along with the boots and skis hanging off of the chairlift was just too much for my hips and back. I thought it would be this way forever… [Read more…] about Why I love SomaYoga Therapy

Red Lights, Green Lights and Happy Holidays!

Does it seem a little early for me to be saying “Happy Holidays”? Well, with the holidays and a very busy time of year approaching, I want to give you the early gift of understanding how tension can develop in one’s body and two simple Somatic movements to help you prepare for and release the tension that this beautiful time of year can sometimes bring to one’s body.

Green Lights and Red Lights of the holidays make me also think of three innate reflexes the body responds to stress with – Red Light Reflex, Green Light Reflex and the Trauma Reflex. These reflexes can cause involuntary muscle tension (Sensory Motor Amnesia) if the brain can no longer access the voluntary control of the muscle to release the tension. I will also share two Somatic movements to release muscle tension. [Read more…] about Red Lights, Green Lights and Happy Holidays!

and i said to my body.
softly.
‘i want to be your friend.’
it took a long breath.

‘i have been waiting my whole life for this.’
